How To Organize Your Closet

 How To Organize Your Closet

Admit that you probably use your closet to hide some of the mess in your bedroom, so at least your house will look clean. If you’ve ever been guilty of throwing everything into your drawers and closets before guests arrive, ask yourself, what would come tumbling out if someone opened that closet or drawer?

Here are a few tips that will help you organize your closet better.

Declutter Your Clothes

Be ruthless. If there’s a stain on something and you’ve sent it to the dry cleaner a couple of times in vain, get rid of that piece of clothing! And don’t hoard clothes of sizes you don’t fit into anymore. Gift these items to your family or friends. Consider what looks good on you, and be realistic about what you may want to wear in the future.

Organize by Category

Store shoes with shoes, bags with bags, tops with tops, dresses with dresses, coats with coats, and so on.

Color-Code Your Clothes

Organize your clothes based on their colors. Keep the lightest shades to the left and the darkest ones to the right. Doing this can help you locate what you need with ease.

Showcase Your Investment Pieces

Many of us splurge on those extra-special or limited-edition handbags and shoes. Then, why not showcase them by keeping them on a visible shelf?

Accessorize (Yes, your closet needs accessories, too!)

Get some drawer inserts, a jewelry organizer, tie and belt racks, and purse stuffers. Consider buying boot trees, so your boots can be placed vertically. You could also DIY some of these accessories.

Make the Most of Your Space

There are two ways to organize your shoes if you are tight on space. If you have a lot of shelf space—that is, it’s longer instead of deeper—place one pair of shoes with the toe forward, the next one with the heel forward. If your space is deeper but not very wide, then put one shoe of a pair in the front and the corresponding pair in the back.

Stack Your Winter Wear

If you don’t have space for a full shelving system, think about buying a hanging cubby to stack your sweaters. Go the extra mile with a folding board to keep your knits neat and wrinkle-free.
